Frequently Asked Questions

With the latest safe management measures, the OCBC Cycle Speedway Championships 2021 will be postponed to a later date. We are currently working with the authorities and partners to prepare for a new date. Further details will be announced as soon as it is ready.


Registration

When does registration for OCBC Cycle 2021 start and end?

You can sign up for OCBC Cycle 2021 from 11:30am, Thursday, 25 March 2021 onwards. Registration closes on 12:00am, Saturday, 15 May 2021, or when all slots are taken up.

Does the registration fee include insurance coverage?

The registration fee for OCBC Cycle Speedway Championships includes basic personal accident insurance coverage for the cyclist’s ride on the respective event day. Cyclists aged between 19 to 80 will enjoy the following insurance coverage:

Benefits Insured Limit Per Insured Person
Death & Permanent Disability (Capital Sum) S$5,000 for any one accident
Medical Expense S$500 for any one accident, maximum of S$1,000 for the insured. Subject to a deductible of S$50 for any one accident

You can choose to upgrade your insurance coverage at your own cost to a more comprehensive one during the registration process.

Please note that there is no complimentary insurance coverage for participants of the virtual rides.

What are the methods of payment for registration?

VISA and MasterCard credit/debit cards, and OCBC Pay Anyone™.

What is OCBC Pay Anyone™?

OCBC Pay Anyone™ is a mobile application which allows OCBC customers to send money to anyone and make purchases.

Why pay with OCBC Pay Anyone™?

When will I get my S$2 cashback?

You will receive your S$2 cashback within 30 days of registration, if you are amongst the first 200 to sign up for the event with OCBC Pay AnyoneTM.

How do I make payment with OCBC Pay Anyone™ on my computer?

You will be required to launch the OCBC Pay Anyone™ application on your smart phone and scan the QR code displayed on the payment page on your computer’s browser. Payment will need to be made via your OCBC Pay Anyone™ app. Once payment has been successfully processed, you will be redirected to a success page on your browser.

What are the ride categories available?

The categories are as follows.

OCBC Cycle Virtual Ride:

  • Mighty Savers® Kids Virtual Ride (5km) (Up to 12 years old)
  • The Straits Times Virtual Ride (23km)
  • The Sportive Virtual Ride (42km)
  • The 100km Virtual Ride
  • The 200km Virtual Ride

OCBC Cycle Speedway Championships:

  • OCBC Cycle Speedway Club Championship (min. 19 years old, available only for local cycling clubs)
  • OCBC Cycle Speedway Corporate Championship (min. 19 years old, available only for corporates)
  • OCBC Cycle Speedway Women Championship (min. 19 years old)

What are the registration fees for the various categories?

The registration fees are as follows.

OCBC Cycle Virtual Ride:

  • Mighty Savers® Kids Virtual Ride (5km) (Up to 12 years old) – Free
  • The Straits Times Virtual Ride (23km) – Free
  • The Sportive Virtual Ride (42km) – Free
  • The 100km Virtual Ride – S$22
  • The 200km Virtual Ride – S$25

OCBC Cycle Speedway Championships:

What are the various registration promotions?

There are two registration promotions.

    • Enjoy 10% off your registration fee when you sign up for the event with your OCBC Card.
    • Receive S$2 cashback when you are among the first 200 to sign up for the event using OCBC Pay Anyone™.

Registration promotions are not to be used in conjunction with one another or with other promotions.

Can I take part in more than one category?

You can sign up to take part in both OCBC Cycle Virtual Ride and OCBC Cycle Speedway Championships. However, you are only allowed to sign up for one category in each format.

How do I register if I am under the age of 21?

If you are under the age of 21, you will need your parent’s or guardian’s consent. Complete the indemnity section found on the online registration form.

How do I know if my registration is completed?

A confirmation email will be sent to the email address you provided during the registration process.

I did not receive the confirmation email. What should I do?

You did not received the confirmation email for one of the following reasons:

  • You might have provided an erroneous email address when registering.
  • The email might have been treated as a spam email and diverted to your junk box.

Key in your details here to have the confirmation email resent to you.

If you still did not receive the confirmation email after doing so, please email us at enquiry@ocbccycle.com and provide your:

  • Name
  • Last 3 digits and checksum/alphabet of your NRIC/Passport Number

We will reply within three working days.

Do I get a refund if I choose not to participate or am unable to make for the event after registration?

No, registration fees are non-refundable.

Can I change categories after I have completed my registration?

You cannot switch to another category after you have completed your registration.

Can I change my event apparel size (only applicable for The 100km Virtual Ride and The 200km Virtual Ride) after I complete my registration?

You cannot change your event apparel size after you have completed your registration. Please refer to the size chart at the point of registration to choose your preference. Sizes are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Can I get my friend to cycle on my behalf?

No. This is due to safety reasons, ease of identification and contact purposes during an emergency.


OCBC Cycle Virtual Ride

How does the OCBC Cycle Virtual Ride work?
  • Sign up by Friday, 14 May 2021 to take part in your preferred category.
  • Cycle the distance required over a maximum of four rides, anywhere (indoor/ outdoor) from 15 May to 4 July 2021.
  • Take pictures of the following:
    • Your ride details – date, distance and duration – recorded by a fitness tracker/ workout app that you use during your ride(s).
    • A picture of you and your bicycle from one of your rides; this can be taken at any point of the ride.
  • You only have one attempt to submit these pictures via www.ocbccycle.com by 4 July 2021 to indicate that you have completed your virtual ride.
  • An email will be sent to you to confirm the completion of your ride within seven days after your submission.
  • The event entitlements will be delivered to you by Monday, 26 July 2021.

What entitlements will I receive?

An email will be sent to you after we have validated your submission details to confirm that you have completed your virtual ride. After which, your e-Certificate will be available on the event website till Monday, 26 July 2021 for you to download.

We will also be sending you the OCBC Cycle 2021 medal and tote bag by Monday, 26 July 2021 if you complete your virtual ride.

If you complete The 100km Virtual Ride or The 200km Virtual Ride, you will receive a cycling jersey as well as the medal and tote bag.

When will I receive my event entitlements?

Once your submitted ride details are verified, you will receive your event entitlements by Monday, 26 July 2021. You will be able to download the e-Certificate from the day you receive our email to confirm the completion of your virtual ride till Monday, 26 July 2021.

What am I required to submit to show that I have completed my virtual ride?

You have only one attempt to submit the following pictures via www.ocbccycle.com from Saturday, 15 May 2021 to Sunday, 4 July 2021.

  • Your ride details – date(s), distance(s) and duration(s) – recorded by a fitness tracker/workout app that you use during your ride(s).
  • A picture of you and your bicycle from one of your rides; this can be taken at any point of the rides.

What fitness tracking applications/devices can I use?

Any applications or devices that can track the date of ride, distance and ride duration can be used. Some examples of devices or applications that can be used include Garmin bicycle computers (Edge, Felix, Forerunner), CycleMeter, Endomondo, MapMyRide, Strava, or native health apps in Android or iOS devices.

My application/device does not show the date of ride. What do I do?

You can take a photo of your watch showing the date of ride beside your tracking device which shows your ride details.

Do I need a helmet to participate in the virtual ride?

Riding with a helmet, especially when outdoors, is strongly encouraged. Please abide by traffic regulations and adopt safe cycling practices when riding outdoors. More information and tips on how to ride safely can be found here.

Are there any specific routes that I have to follow?

There is no specified route for OCBC Cycle 2021 Virtual Ride. However, you can visit the following websites to help you with planning your route:


OCBC Cycle Speedway Championships

How does the OCBC Cycle Speedway Championships work?

OCBC Cycle Speedway Championships comprises three categories.

  • OCBC Cycle Speedway Club Championship (min. 19 years old) – S$300
  • OCBC Cycle Speedway Corporate Championship (min. 19 years old) – S$300
  • OCBC Cycle Speedway Women Championship (min. 19 years old) – S$300

Teams race around a 1km-long circuit in a team-of four relay format to vie for the title of OCBC Cycle Speedway Champion.

Each team is required to complete 10 laps of the 1km course – first five laps (1st pair of riders) and last five laps (next pair of riders). There will be three rounds – qualifying rounds, semi-finals and finals. Ranking of the teams in each round is based on the time taken to complete the course. The time taken by a team to complete the race is deemed to be the average of the times taken by the third and fourth rider to cross the finishing line from the flag-off of the race.

Depending on the category, different number of teams will proceed to the semi-finals and finals.

When does the registration for OCBC Cycle Speedway Championships start and end?

You can indicate your interest from 11:30am, Thursday, 25 March 2021 onwards. Registration closes on 12:00am, Saturday, 15 May 2021, or when all slots are taken up.

Who can take part in OCBC Cycle Speedway Championship?
  • OCBC Cycle Speedway Club Championship: You need to be part of a local cycling club and are residing in Singapore.
  • OCBC Cycle Speedway Corporate Championship: You need to be employed by the company that you are representing.
  • OCBC Cycle Speedway Women Championship: You must be part of a team of all-female riders.

Riders are only allowed to represent one team across all OCBC Cycle Speedway Championship categories.

Can I represent multiple teams across the various OCBC Cycle Speedway Championship categories?

No. You can only take part in one category and represent a single team.

How many teams can my club/company register for OCBC Cycle Speedway Club/Corporate Championship?

Each club/company can only register up to a maximum of two teams. However, the second team will be placed on a waiting list.

How many riders do I have to register for each team?

Each team will need to register four riders for the race. Due to safe management measures, each team will be capped at four riders. No reserve rider or team assistants will be allowed for the race.

Can I change one of my members in my team after I have completed the registration?

For participants of OCBC Cycle Speedway Championships, any amendments will be made on a case-by-case basis. Please write in to us at cycle.speedway@ocbccycle.com.

Please note that this is applicable strictly to OCBC Cycle Speedway Championships participants only.

If I am eliminated, can I ride on other teams?

You can only ride for the team that you registered for. Failure to comply will result in an immediate disqualification of both teams.

Can the team have a mix of both female and male riders?

Yes, you can have a mix of female and male riders in your team when you sign up for OCBC Cycle Speedway Club and Corporate Championship.

What are the payment methods?

VISA and MasterCard credit/debit cards, and OCBC Pay Anyone™.

Are there any other payment modes?

What will be the COVID-19 safety measures implemented at OCBC Cycle Speedway Championships?

Your health and safety are our priority, and we are working closely with the relevant authorities to put in place safe management measures at OCBC Cycle Speedway Championships to minimise the risk of COVID-19 infection.
Here are some of the measures that we will be putting in place.

1. Group segregation
Every category will be separated, in terms of race schedule and holding area. Each team will be assigned a specific team holding area. The size of each team holding area has also been increased and spaced further from each other to provide all participants with sufficient space for safe distancing. Teams will also be assigned a specific mobile toilet that they can use at the venue. Team assistants, reserve rider and spectators will not be allowed at the race this year.

2. Staggered reporting time
All reporting times will be staggered to minimise crowding. Participants are to follow their allocated timing and arrive on time. This will help to ensure a smooth race schedule.

3. Mandatory usage of TraceTogether mobile application
Only the TraceTogether mobile application will be accepted to check-in at the venue. All participants are required to keep their TraceTogether application running to facilitate contract tracing if necessary. Participants who are not using the TraceTogether mobile application will not be allowed to participate in the race.

4. Mask up and stay apart
Participants are required to wear a mask when they are not racing. This includes at any time while waiting for their race to start and after they have completed their race.

The support and cooperation of everyone is paramount to ensure that all riders have a safe environment to race in. We are closely monitoring the development of the Covid-19 situation together with the authorities.

  • Champion – S$800,Champions’ jerseys and Hydroflask bottles
  • First Runner-up – S$600 and Hydroflask bottles

COVID-19 Safe Management Measures

What are the COVID-19 safe management measures that will be put in place at OCBC Cycle Speedway Championships?

Is there temperature-taking at the event venue?

Yes. There will be temperature taking and recording of visitor details via the TraceTogether mobile application at the event venue. Participants who display flu-like symptoms (e.g. cough, fever 38 degree Celsius and above), participants who came back from overseas within the last 14 days, on Stay Home Notice, are not allowed within our premises.

Event volunteers will be deployed to ensure safe management measures are adhered to, and we reserve the right to turn away participants who do not comply to measures set and to avoid overcrowding.

What application can I use to check-in at the venue?

Only the the TraceTogether mobile application will be accepted to check-in at the event venue. You will not be able to gain entry to the event by scanning SafeEntry QR codes with your mobile phone camera, through the SingPass mobile app or using the barcodes/QR codes on your NRIC or TraceTogether token. Please ensure that you have downloaded and setup the TraceTogether mobile application before arriving at the venue.

Is it compulsory to wear a mask at all time?

It is compulsory to wear a mask when you leave your home. You can only remove your mask when you are racing

Can I bring my family/friends to watch the race?

Spectators will not be allowed at the race venue this year due to safe management measures.


Refunds

Will there be a refund for my existing registration?

Yes, all registration fees will be fully refunded by 14 September. Alternatively, you can also choose to have your registration fee donated to Care Corner Singapore Pte Ltd between 21 July – 14 August . Click here to donate.

No action is required if you do not wish to donate your registration fee and if you do not intend to participate in OCBC Cycle 2020 Virtual Ride. You will receive your refund by 14 September.

I previously registered for OCBC Cycle 2020 as part of a group. How do I receive my refund?

All group registration fees will be refunded to the registered point of contact of your group. Group participants who have previously registered for the physical event can sign up for the virtual ride using the codes provided to the registered point of contact from 21 July to 14 August. All unused codes will expire and be deemed to be forfeited by 15 August, 12:00am. For avoidance of doubt, each individual in the group should use the codes to register for the Event.

Will there be a refund for my existing registration if I am an overseas participant?

Yes, all registration fees will be fully refunded by 14 September.

How do I donate my registration fee?

Only participants who have registered for the physical event may choose to donate their registration fee. There will not be an option to donate your registration fee for overseas participants.

Why do I not see an option to donate my registration fee?

If you have already requested for a refund previously / were not required to pay for your registration fee, you will not have the option to donate your registration fee. Members of group registrations will not have the option to donate as it is available only to the point of contact for the group.

Overseas participants will also not have the option to donate as it is available only to residents of Singapore.

I do not want to donate my registration fee and also do not want to take part in OCBC Cycle 2020 Virtual Ride. What do I do?

You will not be required to do anything if you do not want to donate your registration fee and if you do not intend to participate in OCBC Cycle 2020 Virtual Ride. You will receive your refund by 14 September.

Will I still be able to register for OCBC Cycle 2020 Virtual Ride if I have requested for my refund previously?

Yes, you may opt-in to join the virtual ride here between 21 July – 14 August.

When will I receive my refund after I submit my request?

You will receive your refund by 14 September.

I did not receive my refund on 14 September. What should I do?

All refunds will be completed by 14 September. Should you still not receive the refund by this date, please email us at enquiry@ocbccycle.com and provide your:

  • Name used to register for the event
  • Contact number

We will reply within three (3) working days.

How will I receive my refund if I paid for my registration fee previously using OCBC Pay Anyone™?

We will contact you to get your details separately.

How will I receive my refund if I paid for my registration fee previously using a Credit / Debit Card?

The refunds will be made to the Credit / Debit Card you used during registration.


Submission

How does the virtual ride work?

Ride anytime between 1 November, 12:00am – 15 November, 11:59pm and track it with any fitness tracking application or device (e.g.: Garmin Edge, Garmin Fenix, Garmin Forerunner). Subsequently, submit your ride details through the user portal.

(Refer to next question for the details that need to be included).

Indoor rides on stationary bicycles and bicycles on smart cycling trainers are also allowed for all OCBC Cycle 2020 Virtual Ride categories. For instance, you can cycle on your smart trainer and track your distance via the Tacx training app or Zwift.

   

What details am I required to submit for the virtual ride?

An email with access details to your user portal will be sent to you at least one week before the Event. The following information is required to be submitted in order to be eligible for the event entitlements:

  1. A picture consisting of yourself and your bicycle at the start of your ride
  2. A picture of the ride details which must contain the following:
    1. Date of activity
    2. Distance
    3. Duration of activity
  3. A picture consisting of yourself and your bicycle at the end of your ride

Note: You can accumulate the required distance of the respective category in up to 4 sessions, as long as the ride is completed within the Event Period. Access the user portal to submit the required information between 1 November, 12:00pm and 15 November, 11:59pm. Submission can only be done once and Participants should ensure that they have all the relevant details and images on hand before submitting the required information. Participants will not be able to amend or supplement their ride details once the submission has been made.

Please do NOT use or hold your smartphones/devices while cycling. Take your selfies only when stationary.

When do I need to submit the details for my virtual ride?

Log in to the user portal and submit the required information anytime between 1 November, 12:00pm – 15 November, 11:59pm. Once your submission is verified, you will receive your event medal and event tote bag by 7 December.

I have multiple kids taking part in the Mighty Savers® Kids VR (2 – 5 years old) and/or Mighty Savers® Kids VR (5 – 12 years old). How do I submit the required information?

Parents with kids taking part in both Mighty Savers® Kids VR (2 – 5 years old) and Mighty Savers® Kids VR (5 – 12 years old)
You are required to submit two separate sets of ride details as required by each category.

Parents with kids taking part within the same age category of Mighty Savers® Kids VR
If you have multiple kids taking part within the same age category of Mighty Savers® Kids VR, you are only required to submit 1 set of ride details for all your kids.

You are encouraged to be in the photo with your kids for the Mighty Savers® Kids VR!

What fitness tracking applications/devices can I use?

Any applications or devices that are capable of tracking the date of ride, distance cycled and ride duration can be used.

Garmin e-Challenge

What is this activity about?

You can experience a taste of E-sports by taking part in Garmin e-Challenge, where you have five (5) minutes to go on an all-out sprint, using the trainer to clock the maximum distance on a virtual section of The Sportive Ride’s route. Compete to see how you fare against the rest on the leaderboard!

How do I register for Garmin e-Challenge?

You may register here. Registration closes on 24 April 2020 or when all slots are taken up.

Who can take part in Garmin e-Challenge?

Anyone can take part! Minimum age for this category is 13 years of age as of event year.

There will be two challenges for this activity:

  • Speedway Riders Challenge – only applicable for OCBC Cycle Speedway Championships (Club, Corporate or Women) participants
  • Public Challenge – applicable for public or participants from other ride categories
Where is this activity held at?

Garmin e-Challenge will be held at OCBC Arena Hall 1, Singapore Sports Hub.

When is this activity held?

This e-Challenge will take place on Friday (8 May 2020) and Saturday (9 May 2020).

What are the time slots available?

There are a total of 36 time slots over 8 May and 9 May 2020.

8th May 2020: 11:00am – 7:30pm (18 time slots)
9th May 2020: 11:30am – 7:30pm (18 time slots)

Each time slot can accommodate up to 12 participants.

What is the activity format?

Garmin e-Challenge is an individual challenge where cyclists compete on a selected virtual section of The Sportive Ride’s route.

Each participant will be allocated five (5) minutes to clock their longest distance on the trainer with bicycles provided by OCBC Cycle’s organising team.

At the end of five (5) minutes, participants will be ranked based on their distance.

In the event of a tie, participants will be ranked by the following criteria, in order of importance:

  1. Highest average speed
  2. Highest maximum speed

Please note that a weigh-in will be conducted before the commencement of the challenge.

What is the duration for each time slot?

Each participant will be allocated five (5) minutes to clock their longest distance.

Participants are required to sign-in at the registration area inside OCBC Arena Hall 1, 15 minutes before their registered time slot.

Do I need a helmet for this category?

You do not require a helmet for this category. However, proper footwear will still be required.

What are the prizes?

Public Challenge (each day):

  • 1st – 3rd: Garmin Forerunner 45 running watch (worth $299) each

Speedway Riders Challenge (across both days):

  • 1st: Garmin Vector 3 pedal-based power meter (worth $1,499)
  • 2nd: Garmin Edge 1030 Bike Computer Trainer (worth $899)
  • 3rd – 4th: Timbuk2 Bike Travel case (worth $799)

How do I pay for the race?

Garmin e-Challenge is free for all to participate.
